ITU students show off their robots at 3rd Robotics Expo

On Saturday, the 3rd Robotics Expo was held at Information Technology University’s campus where a number of students from the university showed off their skill in robotics.

Sporting a title of “Machines of the Future: Robots”, the event was organized by the Department of Electric Engineering to address locally relevant problems of Pakistan. It consisted of a total of three sessions. Starting off with a robotic catwalk, the second session consisted of technical presentations which were given by the students on their projects, and finally in the end, there was the main exhibition session at the end where 25 robots were showcased by the University’s undergrad students.

“The aim is to materialise students’ concepts and develop a culture of innovation”, said the Vice Chancellor Dr.Umar Saif while speaking at the expo.

Along with the VC Dr.Umar Saif, the expo also played host to a number of other big personalities, inluding Fazal Ahmad Khalid, the Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology(UET); Rita Akhtar, the Executive Director of United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP); and the guest of honour, Sabieh Anwar, Chairperson for the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Department of Physics.

“This is a very humbling and enlightening experience. The robots are very well-designed. The fact that these have been designed by sophomore students, immeasurably enhances your trust in the country’s youth,” said Talha Rehmani, the in-charge of the Robotics Programme.
