The Information Technology University is set to become the first digital university in Pakistan following a collaboration with edX, an online course provider.

On Monday, a certificate distribution ceremony was held at the Information Technology University (ITU). This w as after the first edX integrated course was completed. The ceremony saw to the issuance of certificates to the course participants by the Vice Chancellor of the Information Technology University, Dr. Umar Saif.

The Vice Chancellor spoke about the benefits of incorporating the ‘Circuits and Electronics’ course and the ‘Linear Circuit Analysis’ course. The ‘Circuits and Electronics’ course is offered by edX while the ‘Linear Circuit Analysis’ course is offered at the ITU.

edX and ITU came together after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed in February 2017. Under this agreement, edX courses would be taught to students with supervision from the ITU faculty. The technical platform and digital study materials will be provided by edX.

edX has been in the business of providing online learning courses and a learning platform for a while now. Through edX, learners can access courses from some of the top universities around the world.

The MoU also includes offering the ITU students a chance to learn the electrical engineering course which is offered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). That is a major step for ITU students and the whole academic arena in general. The fact that ITU students were taking the same exams as their MIT counterparts was a big boost to the ITU.

Dr. Umar Saif said that education technology was to define the future and that the ITU at the forefront of this revolution. In this regard, collaboration (between edX and the ITU) would create the first digital University in Pakistan.

Dr. Umar Saif was evidently proud of the achievements of the ITU given that it was the first university through which edX had offered its courses. For students who take part in such courses, they get a course completion certificate from MIT and course credits from the ITU.
