12 Teams Confirmed for T20 World Cup 2028

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed 12 teams for the 2028 T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand.

Hosts Australia and New Zealand have automatically qualified for the 20-team competition, with New Zealand set to host the event for the first time.

Eight other cricketing nations secured confirmation after qualifying for the Super Eights stage of the ongoing marquee tournament, including Pakistan.

The eight teams are England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe and New Zealand, with the Kiwis also serving as one of the host nations.

The next three highest-ranked teams in the ICC men’s T20I rankings as of March 9, 2026, the day after the World Cup final, will qualify directly for the 2028 World Cup.

The ICC confirmed that Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland are set to secure those places, with no remaining international fixtures likely to change their rankings before the cut-off date.

The remaining eight places will be determined through regional qualification pathways, with allocations based on the relative competitive strength of each region.

Since South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured qualification, two Associate nations from the African region will advance to the next edition of the tournament.

Meanwhile, only one team from the entire Americas region will qualify for the 2028 tournament, provided the number of regional qualifying places remains unchanged from this year.
