NEW DELHI: After a notification from the Indian government, YouTube removed an episode of India's Got Latent, a comedy program hosted by Samay Raina, which included Ranveer Allahbadia, a renowned podcaster. This episode, in which Allahbadia made obscene jokes, got a lot of negative feedback and comments about being improper. After the removal, Allahbadia and Raina were both summoned by the Mumbai Police to be interrogated about the matter. According to reports, a parliamentary committee "was considering sending a formal notice to Allahbadia concerning his remarks." On X, Kanchan Gupta, a senior consultant to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said that the episode had been taken down from YouTube by government decree, and he even shared a screenshot to back up his claim. People asked for "stricter regulations" on online material in response to the question. Allahbadia has apologized for his remarks, saying that he realizes now that they were "not only inappropriate but also unfunny." He stressed that comedy is not his "strong suit." The Mumbai Police are looking into the case and have gotten complaints about a number of people involved, such as YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and influencer Apoorva Makhija, also known as "The Rebel Kid." Additionally, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra has spoken out, saying that although free speech is vital, it should not violate the rights of others and that individuals who disregard moral standards should face consequences.
