BTC to PKR Update: AI Shift Powers Bitcoin Miners While Pure BTC Firms Lag Behind

BTC to PKR trades near ₨24,900,000 in the Pakistani market (approx. $87,000), a clear divide has emerged in 2025 between crypto miners that diversified into artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) and traditional bitcoin-only mining firms, highlighting how strategic shifts shape performance in a challenging market environment.

Public miners that expanded into AI and HPC infrastructure delivered significant share price gains this year. IREN emerged as the standout, posting about +300% year-to-date, supported by GPU cloud deals and major partnerships. Cipher Mining also delivered strong results with expanded AI hosting collaborations, while Hut 8 Capital gained after securing a 15-year, $7 billion AI data centre lease in Louisiana. These moves boosted earnings prospects beyond traditional bitcoin operations.

In contrast, bitcoin-focused miners without early diversification struggled. Marathon Digital, despite holding the largest Bitcoin reserves among peers, saw its share price fall roughly 44% YTD, while CleanSpark and Riot Platforms posted modest gains. Bitdeer Technologies was the biggest laggard, with losses of around 50% following disappointing earnings and delays in AI strategy execution.

Bitcoin’s Price and Market Context

Bitcoin itself has had a mixed year, down modestly while many broader markets hit record highs. The divergence in miner performance underscores how holding BTC alone has been insufficient to insulate companies from weak earnings or execution challenges, especially where AI expansion lagged.

Broader Crypto Sector Shifts

The 2025 trend underscores how crypto market participants are evolving amid changing demand dynamics. Companies that repurposed mining capacity to leverage AI compute demand and cloud partnerships have found new revenue avenues, while pure-play operators face margin pressure and strategic reassessment. This bifurcation may set the tone for miner valuations as digital assets and related technologies continue to converge.
