Deadline Set to Restore Traffic on M-5 Motorway After Flood Damage

The federal government has set November 30 as the deadline to reopen one-way traffic on the M-5 Motorway following flood damage, after Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan inspected the restoration work near Jalalpur Pirwala.

During the visit, Khan directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to ensure minimal inconvenience for commuters and maintain strict quality standards in all repair operations.

“Substandard work will not be tolerated at any stage,” he warned, emphasizing timely progress and safety on the motorway.

The minister also reviewed rest houses and roadside services along the M-5 corridor, expressing dissatisfaction with current facilities. He instructed officials to improve clean restrooms, stocked tuck shops, and proper traveler services, underscoring the need for reliable amenities for every commuter.

The M-5 Motorway, a critical artery connecting major cities, suffered significant damage during recent floods, affecting both traffic flow and road safety. NHA officials briefed the minister on ongoing rehabilitation operations, assuring that full functionality of the motorway will be restored swiftly. Khan also ordered a detailed progress report within a week and announced he would return for a follow-up inspection to monitor developments.

Officials said the restoration work includes repairing damaged pavement, strengthening embankments, and improving safety features to prevent future flood-related disruptions. The government aims to ensure uninterrupted travel and safeguard infrastructure as the region recovers from severe weather impacts.
