Electric Scooter Scheme Launched in Balochistan with NBP Support

Published by

Balochistan has become the latest province to roll out a subsidized electric scooter scheme, aiming to provide affordable, safe, and eco-friendly transportation to students, working women, and the general public. The initiative is being launched through a partnership between the Government of Balochistan and the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).

The scheme was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, senior provincial officials, and representatives of the National Bank of Pakistan. Under the agreement, electric scooters will be offered on subsidized installment plans, making them accessible to a wider segment of society.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said the initiative is designed to ease daily commuting challenges, especially for students and working women who often face mobility and safety issues. He noted that promoting electric vehicles will not only reduce transportation costs but also encourage the use of environmentally friendly alternatives.

“This project reflects our commitment to public welfare and inclusive development,” the chief minister said, adding that such initiatives empower women and youth while supporting long-term social and economic progress in the province.

The electric scooter scheme aligns with a growing national trend where provincial governments are promoting electric mobility to cut fuel expenses, reduce emissions, and improve urban transport options. Rising fuel prices and limited public transport have increased demand for affordable personal mobility solutions, particularly in underserved regions like Balochistan.

By introducing subsidized electric scooters, the provincial government aims to modernize transport infrastructure, support clean energy adoption, and improve quality of life. The involvement of the National Bank of Pakistan ensures structured financing, transparency, and wider outreach for eligible applicants.
