Faisalabad aims to become a hub for technology hardware. Punjab Industries, Commerce, and Investment Minister Chaudhary Shafay Hussain announced plans to establish Pakistan’s first computer chip manufacturing unit in the city.
The Minister shared this development while addressing the business community at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday night.
This new facility serves a specific purpose. It will directly support mobile phone assembly plants. These plants are currently operating in Faisalabad, Karachi, and Lahore. This move aims to strengthen the local supply chain for tech manufacturing.
Beyond the chip unit, the government is expanding industrial infrastructure. They have allocated 50 acres of land at the M-3 Industrial Estate. This land is designated for a state-of-the-art expo centre. Minister Chaudhary Shafay Hussain noted that the Export Development Fund may provide the necessary funding for its construction.
Authorities have also made key decisions to speed up the colonisation of both the M-3 and Allama Iqbal industrial estates. To facilitate this, the government will construct a community centre and complete the boundary walls.
Safety remains a priority for the administration. They will establish a dedicated monitoring cell for foreign workers employed at these estates. Furthermore, authorities are taking active steps to provide full banking and commercial facilities to the industrial units.
On the agricultural front, the government has launched a new program. This initiative focuses on increasing cotton production. It relies on research and development to produce high-yield, disease-resistant seeds.
