Free Wi-Fi Expanded to 1,400+ Locations in Punjab

Punjab has expanded its CM Free Wi-Fi Service to over 1,400 locations across the province, making free internet accessible in public areas, colleges, and major urban centers. The initiative reflects the government’s push to bridge the digital divide and improve connectivity for citizens.

Launched under the Chief Minister’s directives, the project is being implemented by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). Lahore now has 442 hotspots alone, where more than 58 million users have consumed over 1,191 terabytes of data. The service is also operational in 23 districts with 952 hotspots, covering bus stands, hospitals, parks, and key marketplaces.

To further strengthen digital access, free Wi-Fi has been rolled out in 450 women’s government colleges. Officials say this will not only support students in accessing online educational resources but also enhance safety by allowing quick connectivity to emergency services.

The network has recently been upgraded with Wi-Fi 6 technology, ensuring faster speeds, stable connections, and better performance in crowded areas. In Lahore, the number of hotspots has nearly doubled within months, expanding from around 230 to more than 430.

Authorities emphasize that the service is primarily meant for essential use education, communication, and public services. Streaming and entertainment are restricted through filtering tools to maintain responsible usage. This expansion is a step toward building a digitally empowered Punjab where technology improves education, public safety, and access to services.
