Major global satellite operators are poised to enter the Pakistani market. However, they are currently awaiting clear regulations and formal permission to launch their operations.
International players are keen to provide advanced broadband and communication services across the country. These operators include industry heavyweights like Starlink, Amazon Kuiper, and OneWeb. Additionally, Shanghai Spacecom and Galaxy Space are seeking entry. Despite their interest, they require specific permission from the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) to proceed with their services.
Reportedly, top official sources have confirmed that these global satellite operators are ready to deploy. Specifically, they utilise Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations. These technologies currently provide high-speed connectivity in over 70 countries. They are particularly effective in connecting remote and underserved regions globally.
However, the situation in Pakistan remains different. These operators have been waiting for regulatory clearance for the last couple of years. Representatives from these major satellite providers have declined to comment publicly. Nevertheless, they confirm that they are simply awaiting government approvals.
This regulatory delay has tangible consequences. Consequently, the lack of approval affects connectivity across various critical industries. The Information Technology (IT) sector faces limitations without this advanced infrastructure.
Furthermore, the delay hinders maritime operations. It also impacts disaster recovery capabilities, which rely heavily on robust communication networks. For now, these global tech giants remain on standby, waiting for the PSARB to open the digital doors.
