New industry reports confirm that Google’s upcoming Tensor G5 chip, which will power the Google Pixel 10, is set to feature a GPU from Imagination Technologies. The growing collaboration between Google and Imagination Technologies has been the subject of speculation, and recent industry insights further strengthen these claims.
During the recent RISC-V Day Tokyo conference in Japan, a blog post by postgraduate student Yang Yanling provided details on RISC-V and Imagination GPU integration. Imagination Technologies verified the claims through a WeChat repost of this post, which added official credibility. The original post revealed that Tensor G5 chips incorporate an Imagination GPU before the table was taken down.
Multiple sources indicate the Tensor G5 will function as the Google Pixel 10 processor with the DXT-48-1536 GPU from Imagination Technologies. The DXT-48-1536 GPU constitutes a fundamental improvement against the Arm Mali-G715 inside the Tensor G3 and G4 by incorporating vital ray tracing capabilities.
The Tensor G5 production will transition to TSMC after using the 3nm-class node fabrication technology instead of Samsung’s fabrication platform. Google plans to use Arm Cortex CPU cores to build its new custom image signal processor (ISP) as their hardware design. The new design replaces the hybrid approach used in previous models, where Samsung manufactured the devices with Google-designed components.
System-level cache and custom memory controller plus power modules represent other core improvements in this design. The chipset contains merged third-party elements for USB and PCIe and I3C systems while adopting DSI display and DisplayPort along with flash storage and LPDDR5x memory through third-party interfaces.
The same table that detailed the Tensor G5 also referenced an undisclosed Xiaomi chipset, named “XuanJie,” which is reported to feature an Imagination Technologies GPU. However, further details regarding this chipset remain unknown.
New reports continue to validate these developments, highlighting Google’s strategic shift with the Tensor G5. The switch to an Imagination Technologies GPU, coupled with a fully custom ISP and a TSMC-manufactured design, signifies a major leap forward for the Pixel 10 series. These advancements are expected to deliver enhanced graphics performance, improved camera capabilities, and better overall efficiency.
