HEC Introduces “Maktab” Enterprise Resource Planning in 25 Universities

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has rolled out its centralized ERP system, “Maktab,” in 25 universities, with plans for nationwide expansion. The system digitizes the entire student lifecycle from admission to degree issuance, helping reduce errors, and delays.

Minister of State for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MOFEPT), Ms. Wajiha Qamar, on Tuesday held a live press conference highlighting that Pakistan’s higher education sector is moving toward a fully digital future.

The “Maktab” system, launched under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) framework, allows the entire academic journey of students to be tracked on a single platform.

Building on legacy of Islamic Education, HEC’s digital Maktab aims to reimagine the concept through a cloud-based education management system, offering institutions real-time access to student and faculty data while introducing a scalable and sustainable model for modern academic administration.

The minister also announced Blockchain-based degree verification, which will make academic credentials tamper-proof and globally verifiable. The move is expected to ease verification for graduates and employers while improving international academic standing.

Alongside university reforms, a centralized e-admission portal has been introduced by the FDE for BS programs in Islamabad, initially benefiting thousands of students. Complaint redressal mechanisms, including digital platforms and e-katcheries, are also being used to directly address concerns raised by students and parents.

Concluding the press conference, the Minister reaffirmed that these reforms collectively aim to institutionalize transparency, reduce discretionary practices, and deliver efficient, technology-driven, and citizen-focused education services across Pakistan.
