IMF Urges Pakistan to Include SPS Officials in Asset Declarations

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has advised Pakistan to broaden its asset declaration requirements by including officials appointed on the Special Pay Scale, in addition to regular government officers.

According to details, the government is developing a framework that will place SPS officials serving at the federal and provincial levels under the same asset declaration rules that apply to civil servants.

The plan will require project directors, legal advisors, directors, and specialised experts working on SPS to disclose their assets in line with the standards followed by regular public sector employees.

A formal mechanism is expected to be introduced to ensure implementation, with the second phase of the initiative specifically targeting SPS officials. The measure is part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in public service, in line with IMF guidance.
