Islamabad United Release Key Pacer Hours After Signing

Published by

Islamabad United abruptly released West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph just hours after confirming his signing for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, surprising fans and raising questions about the decision.

The franchise initially announced the acquisition of Joseph during the auction on February 11, reporting a Rs. 1.10 crore deal to strengthen Islamabad United’s pace attack with international experience.

Within hours, the three-time champions deleted their social media post confirming Joseph’s signing, drawing attention from fans and media, but the franchise has yet to issue a formal explanation for the sudden reversal.

Joseph faces serious allegations reported in Guyana in June 2025, including accusations of rape, sexual assault, harassment, and unwanted advances involving at least 11 women, though no formal criminal charges have been filed.

On the field, Joseph rose to prominence for his pace bowling, notably during a Test match at the Gabba against Australia, earning him recognition from multiple T20 franchises around the world.

The right-arm pacer has represented West Indies in 17 T20 International matches, taking 19 wickets at an average of 28.10 and an economy rate of 9.20, with best figures of 3/30.

Islamabad United remained active in the PSL 11 auction, retaining key players such as Shadab Khan, Salman Irshad, and Andries Gous, while also acquiring Faheem Ashraf for Rs. 8.50 crore.
