ISLAMABAD: The Pak-China tech partnership is likely to strengthen, as IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong to discuss advancements in digital transformation and IT investment.

The meeting highlighted both nations’ commitment to enhancing technology collaboration, driving innovation, and fostering sustainable growth in Pakistan’s digital economy, according to a statement.

China has been a key player in Pakistan’s IT sector development, contributing to infrastructure expansion and emerging technology adoption. The recent talks focused on attracting Chinese tech investment, particularly in areas like AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, which could accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation.

With China’s expertise in cutting-edge technologies, Pakistan can benefit from knowledge exchange and skill development, positioning itself as a competitive player in the global tech market, the IT minister said.

According to a recent Asian Development Bank (ADB) report, leveraging platforms like China’s Alipay, Pakistan can significantly accelerate its transition to a cashless economy. By adopting advanced digital payment solutions, the country can enhance financial inclusion, streamline transactions, and reduce reliance on cash-based systems.
