The Karachi Traffic Police informed the Sindh High Court that AI-based e-challans are currently being issued only on roads with complete traffic signage, lane markings, and proper infrastructure. The disclosure comes amid legal scrutiny questioning the readiness and verification of the automated system.
Officials emphasized that enforcement is limited to well-developed corridors meeting mandatory safety standards, while roads under construction or lacking proper signage have been excluded until upgrades are completed. To support motorists, the department offers a 50 percent discount on fines paid within 14 days and plans to establish dedicated traffic courts to improve transparency and expedite dispute resolution.
The case was filed after petitioners raised concerns over the AI-based e-challans system being deployed without full infrastructure readiness. The Sindh High Court has adjourned the next hearing to March 12, 2026. Meanwhile, enforcement in Karachi will continue on clearly marked roads and monitored intersections, following a signage-first policy pending further court directions.
