The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is set for a major overhaul following revelations of an alleged cybercrime mafia operating within the institution, prompting the government to take strict disciplinary action against several officials.
According to local media reports, significant administrative changes are underway, with senior police officer Syed Khurram Ali expected to take charge of the NCCIA. The move comes as part of a broader plan to root out corruption, financial misconduct, and misuse of authority within the agency.
Officials confirmed that multiple officers are likely to face termination, alongside comprehensive investigations into their alleged involvement in illegal activities. The probe will focus on irregularities in recruitment, fake promotions, and manipulation of service records to secure unlawful benefits.
Authorities have also reopened previously shelved inquiries and criminal cases involving these officials. Additionally, the scope of the investigation has been expanded to include money laundering, foreign trips, fund transfers, and cryptocurrency holdings such as bitcoins and other digital assets reportedly moved to personal or fake accounts.
Sources added that the government plans to assign the inquiry to officers of proven integrity who are known for their independence and resistance to outside influence.
“This time, the investigation will be handled by those who cannot be approached,” a senior official said.
He further stated that the cybercrime mafia within NCCIA will be dismantled through a transparent and uncompromising probe.
