Multan Sultans is Back! CD Ventures Saves South Punjab’s Representation in HBL PSL

Published by

South Punjab cricket fans can finally breathe easy. The beloved Multan Sultans franchise has made a shocking and triumphant return to the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). Speculations had been in the air that Multan Sultans might return since Gohar Shah took over. Finally, we have confirmation.

This incredible development follows weeks of intense rumours, corporate maneuvering, and high-stakes drama involving the league’s newest slot. After fears that the region had lost its representation forever, the iconic brand has been resurrected through a massive boardroom power play.

The 200 Crore Power Play

The road to this return was chaotic. The new Sialkot Stallionz franchise, initially purchased by OZ Developers for a record PKR 1.85 billion in January, immediately faced severe rumors of financial instability and bankruptcy. While OZ Developers denied total collapse, they admitted they were actively seeking strategic partners for an “equity dilution”.

Enter CD Ventures.

CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, stepped in and executed a decisive takeover. They successfully acquired a 98% majority stake in the struggling Sialkot franchise, effectively rescuing the slot before the first ball was bowled.

Following this acquisition, Gohar Shah was appointed as the new franchise CEO. He immediately petitioned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a crucial identity change. The PCB has now approved that request. The Sialkot Stallionz have been officially renamed the Multan Sultans.

However, this resurrection comes at a premium cost. As part of the approval process for the rebranding, the team’s annual franchise fee has increased significantly from Rs 185 crore to Rs 200 crore.

Multan Sultans is Back! South Punjab Regains Its Voice

This return is a massive relief for the league’s regional balance. Just last month, the original Multan Sultans franchise was acquired by Walee Technologies for a staggering PKR 2.45 billion. Walee Technologies subsequently moved the team and rebranded them as the “Pindiz” to represent Rawalpindi.

That move completely erased South Punjab’s representation on the cricketing map, leaving a massive fanbase heartbroken.

Now, thanks to CD Ventures’ aggressive acquisition strategy, the Sultans are back. The confusing Sialkot chapter is finally closed. South Punjab once again has a team to cheer for in Pakistan’s premier cricket league, the HBL PSL.
