NCCIA Arrested Man for Selling Data of Millions of Pakistanis Online

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a suspect for selling the personal data of millions of Pakistani citizens on the internet.

Officials recovered a 1-terabyte hard disk from the suspect’s possession. It contained sensitive information, including national identity card numbers, addresses, and other personal records of millions of citizens.

The arrest followed a special inquiry ordered by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Acting on his instructions, the Director General of NCCIA formed a high-level committee to investigate the case. NCCIA successfully arrested the suspect after several days of surveillance and a covert operation.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Anis Ahmad Shah, a resident of Bhakkar. According to officials, a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect purchased citizens’ data from the black market. He then sold it through more than 10 illegal websites operating online.

Authorities stated that several other websites involved in selling the personal data of citizens are now being identified and monitored. The NCCIA continues its efforts to track and shut down these illegal platforms.
