OGDCL Announces Another Oil and Gas Discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Published by

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil and gas discovery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marking another addition to the country’s local energy resources. The search was made at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well in Kohat district, following recent testing activity. The discovery is expected to add modest but significant volumes to national reserves.

The company shared the development through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday. According to OGDCL, the discovery came from the Lumshiwal formation after a successful cased hole drill stem test carried out in both the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations.

Test results showed production of around 225 barrels of oil per day along with 1.01 million cubic feet of gas per day. The flow was recorded through a controlled choke, indicating stable pressure at the wellhead during testing.

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest. Its partners in the project include Pakistan Petroleum Limited, which holds a 30% stake, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited has a five percent carried interest.

The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spudded in late December 2024 to explore the hydrocarbon potential of several underground formations. Drilling continued to a depth of over 5,100 meters, reaching the Kingriali formation. Earlier tests in multiple formations had already indicated the presence of oil and gas, making the latest result a continuation of encouraging signs from the well.
