PM Shehbaz Orders Power Policy to Boost Industrial, Agricultural Growth

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Power Division to prepare a comprehensive policy framework aimed at enhancing industrial production and ensuring efficient use of electricity to support both industry and agriculture.

During a high-level meeting on power sector reforms, the prime minister stressed that Pakistan’s electricity generation must be strategically utilized to fuel economic growth rather than remain underused.

“Electricity production can be best leveraged to increase the output of agricultural and industrial goods,” said PM Shehbaz, urging institutions to adopt coordinated measures that attract investment and drive productivity.

The Power Division briefed the premier on proposed reform measures to improve efficiency and optimize the use of national power resources. The meeting was attended by Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, and Adviser on Industries Haroon Akhtar, among other senior officials.

Pakistan’s industrial sector has long faced challenges from energy inefficiency and high production costs. The government’s new directive seeks to align energy generation with industrial growth targets, ensuring that available power capacity is fully utilized to strengthen local manufacturing and agriculture.

Economic experts say this initiative could stimulate exports, create jobs, and reduce dependence on imports if executed effectively.
