A key meeting was held today between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and telecom leaders Mr. Khalifa Alshamsi, CEO of Etisalat International, and Mr. Hatem Bamatraf, CEO of PTCL. The discussion focused on major developments in Pakistan’s telecom sector, including network expansion, mergers, and digital infrastructure upgrades.
During the meeting, officials reviewed progress on the PTCL–Telenor merger, highlighting ongoing sector consolidation and strategies to enhance competition. Plans for the upcoming spectrum auction, expected during Ramadan, were also discussed, aiming to increase network capacity and improve connectivity across the country.
The discussion emphasized nationwide fiber expansion, including specific tower fiberization targets, to support faster and more reliable networks. Enhancing service quality and network performance remained a priority, ensuring customers receive consistent and dependable telecom services.
Additionally, PTCL’s growing role in AI-enabled data centre services was highlighted as a key driver of Pakistan’s digital transformation. Expanding these services will support businesses and startups looking to leverage AI and cloud technologies.
