Punjab Government Launches Electric Bus Service in Rajanpur

Published by

Rajanpur has witnessed a major change as Punjab government launches electric bus service and also in its infrastructure landscape as more than 500 kilometers of roads have been constructed across the district. The development work, costing over Rs 12 billion, is being described as one of the largest public sector investments in the district’s history.

For years, Rajanpur has been one of the less connected districts of South Punjab, where damaged roads and long travel times affected daily life, trade and access to basic services. Poor road conditions often made travel difficult, particularly during the monsoon season, isolating rural areas from markets and healthcare facilities.

Alongside road development, electric buses have formally started operating from newly built modern bus stations in the district. This marks Rajanpur’s first experience with electric public transport and places it among districts adopting cleaner mobility solutions in Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a statement shared on her official X account, called the development a milestone for South Punjab. She said the road construction and launch of electric buses reflect the government’s commitment to bringing development to districts that have remained neglected in the past.

The electric buses are equipped with basic modern facilities for passengers and are designed to provide affordable and environmentally friendly transport. Dedicated charging stations and purpose-built terminals have also been set up to support the system, indicating a long-term approach rather than a short-term pilot project.
