Punjab Govt Recognizes BS Degrees for Teacher Promotions

The Punjab government has recognized BS degrees as equivalent to a 16-year qualification, making more than 16,000 teachers eligible for promotions under the School Education Department.

For years, BS degree holders in the School Education Department were excluded from the seniority list, which prevented them from receiving departmental promotions. The previous policy only allowed teachers with MA or MSc degrees to qualify for career advancement.

According to an official notice, the new decision will be implemented across all schools working under the School Education Department. This move ends a long-standing concern among BS degree holders who had been deprived of fair promotion opportunities despite their qualifications.

As reported by local media, BS degree holders will now also be considered for promotions in the next meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). The policy shift is expected to boost teacher morale and ensure equal growth prospects in Punjab’s education sector.
