The Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) is planning to increase fares for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus (Green Line), and feeder routes to address rising operational and maintenance costs. The proposed fare adjustments will be presented at the PMA board meeting and then forwarded to the Chief Minister for approval.
Currently, the Punjab government subsidises mass transit with Rs. 21 billion annually, covering more than 75% of the operational costs, while fare collections contribute only 25%. Officials noted that rising energy and maintenance expenses have reduced the revenue share to 32% of previous years.
Under the proposal:
A PMA official stated,
“The fare revision is necessary to sustain high-quality services and meet the growing operational expenses of Lahore’s mass transit system.”
The proposed changes aim to ensure financial sustainability while maintaining efficient transit services for daily commuters in Lahore.
