Punjab has rolled out stringent security measures for public and private schools across the province following recent attacks and rising safety concerns. The new 10-point advisory mandates higher walls, barbed wires, modern CCTVs, metal detectors, and strict visitor controls to ensure student safety.
The Education Department has approved the deployment of 30,000 retired military and police personnel as school security guards on daily wages. Schools are now required to have 8-foot boundary walls with 2 feet of barbed wire, install surveillance cameras on gates, corridors, rooftops, and grounds, and maintain backup power for critical systems.
Each school must operate a control room with emergency contact numbers and enforce strict monitoring during school hours.
“These steps are essential to protect our children and staff from potential threats,” said a senior official overseeing implementation.
Schools must also maintain visitor registers, restrict student movement during breaks, and display anti-terror preparedness guidelines.
Assistant district education officers will inspect schools daily, ensuring compliance. Non-compliance could result in disciplinary action against school heads and officials. This move aims to provide a safe and secure learning environment across Punjab.
