007 First Light Delayed: IO Interactive Pushes Release to May 2026

James Bond fans must exercise a little more patience. IO Interactive (IOI) has officially delayed 007 First Light. The highly anticipated title will no longer launch on March 27, 2026. Instead, the game now arrives on May 27, 2026.

Why the Delay?

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed the news on social media. According to Abrak, the game is currently playable from start to finish. However, the team needs more time. Specifically, they require two extra months to polish and refine the experience.

Abrak emphasised that the goal is to deliver the strongest possible version of the game. Consequently, the studio wants to meet the high standards of fans. He remains confident that this delay will pay off in the long run. Furthermore, Abrak promised more updates throughout early 2026.

007 First Light: A Star-Studded Origin Story

007 First Light explores the origins of a rookie James Bond. Players will embark on a dangerous mission to earn the iconic “00” status and license to kill. Irish actor Patrick Gibson voices the “young Bond”.

Additionally, the cast features serious star power. Grammy Award-winning artist Lenny Kravitz portrays the main antagonist, a mysterious figure named “Bawma”. Bond will also receive support from franchise staples like Q and M, alongside new characters created for the game.

IOI has clarified the gameplay style as well. They are not creating a carbon copy of their famous Hitman franchise. Instead, the game focuses on high-octane action mixed with classic espionage.

The May 2026 Release Calendar

The new date creates an interesting release window. 007 First Light now launches alongside titles like Paralives, The Relic: First Guardian, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Ironically, this delay decreases the distance of the game from Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games recently pushed GTA VI to November 19, 2026. Therefore, gamers now have a comfortable six-month gap between these two massive releases.
