Islamabad School Transformation Plan to Revamp Curriculum and Digital Education
The federal government has launched an ambitious Islamabad school transformation plan aimed at overhauling public education in the capital territory. Set to roll out in the upcoming academic year, the plan introduces a modernized curriculum, enhanced digital infrastructure, and key improvements in STEM learning and student welfare.
Officials from the Ministry of Education confirmed that the Islamabad school transformation plan will introduce new textbooks featuring conceptual illustrations. A non-assessed curriculum will also be rolled out, covering entrepreneurship, environmental and financial literacy, and coding with artificial intelligence—subjects designed to provide students with vital 21st-century skills like business acumen, tech fluency, and sustainability awareness.
To support digital learning, the government is set to provide full internet access in all Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) government schools. More than 200 new IT labs will be established, and 25,000 Chromebooks will be distributed to students, significantly expanding access to digital educational resources.
As part of efforts to boost STEM education, 250 engineers and scientists from the National Institute of Science and Technology and the Institute of Space Studies will be recruited. These professionals will be assigned to 300 schools and colleges to teach STEM subjects, computer science, and entrepreneurship.
The transformation strategy also places strong emphasis on student welfare. All primary-level students will receive free school meals, and summer camps will be launched in both public and private institutions. These camps will include hands-on STEM workshops, sports activities, art programs, and career counselling to guide students toward future academic and professional success.
To address the chronic shortage of teachers, the government has pledged to eliminate the deficit within three months. Additionally, 500 new classrooms will be added across existing schools to accommodate increasing enrollment and improve learning environments.
