Punjab has formally imposed a complete ban on mobile phone use for students in all government and private schools, with authorities directing institutions to implement the order immediately. The move aims to improve classroom discipline and protect students from the negative effects of excessive screen time.
The decision follows a resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly, which stressed the need for a focused academic environment free from digital distractions. The School Education Department has circulated an official notification to all district education heads with instructions to ensure strict compliance.
Officials added that students should instead be encouraged to engage in co-curricular and personality-building activities, which the department says are “essential for healthy mental and social development.”
A senior official, referring to the new directive, said the policy would “promote a safer, healthier and more disciplined learning atmosphere” across Punjab. Schools have been asked to monitor implementation closely and report cases of non-compliance.
