The Punjab government has decided to extend the registration period of private schools to five years, replacing the existing one year renewal system. The move is aimed at easing administrative pressure on schools and creating long-term stability for private education institutions across the province.

Previously, private schools in Punjab were required to renew their registration every year, a process often criticised for being time-consuming and costly. School owners had long demanded a longer registration cycle to allow them to focus more on academic quality rather than repeated paperwork.

Under the revised policy, private schools will receive registration valid for five years instead of one, significantly reducing the frequency of renewals. Officials say the decision will simplify affiliation with education boards and improve coordination between schools and regulatory bodies.

As part of the new mechanism, a representative from private schools in each district will also be included in the registration committee to ensure better stakeholder input.

“The longer registration period will provide operational stability and reduce unnecessary administrative hurdles,” officials said while confirming that the proposal is in its final stages.

The School Education Department has started preparing a formal summary, which will be submitted to the Punjab chief minister for approval. Once cleared, the policy will be implemented province wide, benefiting thousands of private schools.
