Islamabad Announces Public Holidays on December 25 and 26
The federal government has announced two consecutive holidays in Islamabad Capital Territory on December 25 and 26, 2025. December 25 will be observed nationwide as a public holiday to mark Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s birth anniversary and Christmas.
In a separate notification issued by the Office of the District Magistrate, Islamabad, December 26, 2025 (Friday), has been declared a local holiday within the revenue limits of the Islamabad Capital Territory. The order specifies that the holiday applies to government and most private offices falling under ICT’s jurisdiction.
However, the notification makes it clear that offices of essential services will remain open on December 26. These include the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL and hospitals, which will continue normal operations.
Islamabad’s move follows similar decisions by Punjab and Sindh, where authorities have also announced holidays around Christmas and Quaid-e-Azam Day. The back-to-back holidays in the capital will facilitate national observance of Quaid-e-Azam Day while also allowing the Christian community extended time to celebrate Christmas.
