Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) faced a major global outage on Friday, marking the second disruption in less than a week, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the service. Despite widespread impact across multiple regions, X has not issued any official statement on the cause or timeline for restoration.
According to internet monitoring service NetBlocks, X experienced international connectivity issues not linked to country-level internet shutdowns or filtering. Data from Downdetector, cited by Reuters, showed more than 41,000 outage reports in the United States by 10:35am ET. The UK logged around 8,000 complaints, while over 2,400 users in India also reported problems.
Reports surged again around 8pm local time, with users encountering loading failures and access errors across the platform.
In a late update, Cloudflare confirmed it had identified a problem with its Magic Network Monitoring data, noting that customers might see blank or missing dashboard information.
“We are working to mitigate the issue,” Cloudflare said in its 9:21pm update.
Earlier, the company had also informed users that scheduled maintenance was underway, which could lead to temporary rerouting of traffic and slight latency increases.
This incident follows an earlier outage earlier in the week, when access issues peaked at over 28,000 reports before gradually subsiding. The repeated disruptions have raised concerns among users about platform stability, especially as X continues to undergo technical and operational changes under Elon Musk’s ownership.
As of now, X has not commented publicly, leaving users awaiting clarity on the root cause and long-term fixes.
