In a move aimed at improving the quality and transparency of large infrastructure works, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have agreed to work together on strengthening engineering standards in mega development projects.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between PEC Chairman Engineer Waseem Nazir and CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, where both sides discussed measures to improve project execution, governance, and technical oversight in ongoing and future developments.
Under the collaboration, PEC will support CDA in ensuring that engineering practices in mega projects meet professional and technical standards. The focus will remain on better project management, accountability, and quality control throughout the construction process.
As part of the initiative, PEC plans to launch a Project Director (PD) Certification Program for engineers working on CDA’s mega projects. The first batch of the certification is expected to begin in March, with the aim of aligning local engineering practices with internationally recognized standards.
The meeting also reviewed progress on capacity-building efforts for young engineers. Through the CDA Graduate Engineers Trainee (GET) Placement Program, 100 newly graduated engineers will be given practical training and on-site exposure by involving them directly in mega development projects.
Speaking on the occasion, PEC Chairman Engineer Waseem Nazir said hands-on experience for young engineers was essential for meeting the country’s development needs and ensuring the successful execution of large projects. CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa welcomed the initiatives, saying that closer coordination with PEC would help improve construction quality and professional discipline.
