K-Electric (KE) Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi has resigned from his position, ending an 18-year journey with the company, including nearly eight years as CEO. The board has accepted his resignation and is expected to announce a new CEO on February 10, after shortlisting three candidates for the role.
Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008, serving in key roles such as Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury. He was first appointed CEO in June 2018 and reappointed in July 2025. His resignation comes shortly after the Governor of Sindh annulled an order by the Provincial Ombudsman that had directed his removal over alleged workplace harassment, a case Alvi had challenged.
In a post on X, Alvi reflected on his time at KE, saying, “After 18 years with K-Electric, including almost 8 as CEO, I have decided to step down. It has been an honor to serve an institution so central to Karachi’s life, alongside some of the most resilient and committed professionals I know. I will support a smooth transition.”

In a video message, he emphasized that “institutions are always greater than individuals” and expressed confidence in the leadership team and his successor to take K-Electric to new heights. Alvi described his resignation not as leaving KE, but as closing one chapter and opening another.
Alvi’s tenure has seen both operational challenges and leadership highlights. His exit comes after months of public attention when he faced allegations of workplace harassment by a female co-worker, an issue that sparked discussion and public debate at the time.
