Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari (BBSUL) is set to expand its academic offerings with the introduction of MPhil and PhD programs across multiple disciplines, along with new nursing and Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) degrees. The university aims to enhance research and professional education in line with national academic standards.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hussain Mehdi stated that the university expects to receive a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) within days. Following the NOC, the relevant accreditation councils will inspect the nursing and DPT departments before admissions open for the next academic session.
The university plans to introduce MPhil in Information Technology, PhD in Business, and MPhil and PhD programs in English and Education, expanding both research and postgraduate learning opportunities.
The BBSUL Senate is scheduled to meet for the first time in 15 years to formally approve the university’s budget, which had been operating without formal sanction during this period. Over the past year, the university has strengthened its academic and administrative structure by appointing professors, associate professors, and lecturers, establishing the syndicate, and improving departmental leadership.
Additionally, BBSUL has signed memorandums of understanding with over 20 leading companies, reflecting its commitment to development, research collaboration, and professional education. The vice chancellor emphasized that ongoing reforms aim to enhance institutional stability and academic standards, despite opposition from vested interests spreading misleading narratives.
