Google’s rumored Android-based desktop operating system, known internally as “Aluminium OS,” has reportedly leaked again ahead of the company’s Android Show and upcoming Google I/O 2026 announcements.
Leaker Mystic Leaks shared a 16-minute video showcasing Google’s Aluminium OS hours before the Android Show presentation. The comprehensive leak posted on Telegram reveals Google’s Android-based desktop operating system intended for Googlebook laptops. However, the timing stripped away Google’s carefully planned reveal for the desktop platform competing with Windows and macOS.
The leaked footage shows Aluminium OS running Android 17 with a desktop UI borrowing ChromeOS design elements. The taskbar and app drawer resemble ChromeOS while the default home screen includes desktop icons and Google search bar. Furthermore, the operating system supports virtual desktops integrated into the Recents view and includes Link to iOS app.
The build runs inside the UTM emulator on a MacBook Pro according to Android Authority reports. Key features include bottom app dock, compact side-sliding Quick Settings panel, freeform window resizing, and desktop folders. Meanwhile, many Google apps appear as web-wrapped versions rather than native desktop software currently.
The leak shows Aluminium OS feels like plain Android optimized for larger screens similar to Samsung DeX. The setup process mirrors mobile Android experience just scaled up for laptop displays after an Android-branded loading screen. Consequently, users can right-click to create folders and place apps directly on the desktop unlike ChromeOS.
Google is hosting The Android Show I/O Edition later today where the company plans to officially unveil Aluminium OS. Commercial trusted testers get access in late 2026 while full release is not expected until 2028 according to court documents.
