The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all commercial banks to immediately upgrade their ATM security systems to prevent growing incidents of financial fraud.
All commercial banks are now required to keep CCTV cameras operational 24 hours a day and notify customers instantly whenever any suspicious activity is detected at ATMs.
The central bank has also instructed all commercial banks to issue internationally compliant chip-and-pin cards designed to provide stronger protection for banking customers.
The State Bank stated that modern technology must be used across all ATM transactions and that installation of required security devices in machines must be ensured.
The directive further requires that all ATM systems and related software be updated on a regular basis to maintain the highest operational and technical standards.
Banks must also ensure secure and encrypted communication channels are maintained consistently across all interconnected nodes within the national banking network.
Customers who fall victim to ATM fraud are advised to contact their bank’s helpline immediately to report the incident and initiate the formal complaint process.
If a complaint remains unresolved by the bank, customers may escalate the matter directly through the official online complaints portal of the State Bank of Pakistan.
