The Punjab government has announced an allocation of Rs. 22 billion for the Honhaar Scholarship Program in its Budget 2026-27, aiming to provide financial support to talented and deserving students pursuing higher education across the province.
According to budget details, the scholarship initiative is designed to reduce financial barriers for students and ensure that academic talent is supported on a merit basis. The Honhaar Scholarship Program is one of the key youth-focused education initiatives of the provincial government.
Officials said the program has already benefited thousands of students in previous phases and will continue to expand under the new budget cycle. The latest allocation reflects the government’s broader focus on strengthening education access and promoting academic excellence.
The Honhaar Scholarship Program forms part of a wider education spending plan in Punjab, which includes major investments in multiple sectors. Under the education budget, the provincial government has also earmarked funds for the laptop scheme, STEAM labs, IT labs in colleges, and the establishment of new colleges and campuses across the province.
The Rs. 750 billion education development plan includes:
- Rs. 22 billion for Honhaar Scholarship Program
- Rs. 15.69 billion for the Laptop Program
- Rs. 33 billion for STEAM Labs
- Rs. 55 billion for Punjab Education Foundation
- Rs. 6.9 billion for IT Labs in Colleges
- Rs. 7.8 billion for new colleges, campuses, and sub-campuses
The government stated that these initiatives are aimed at promoting equal educational opportunities, encouraging academic excellence, and investing in the province’s youth to support long-term human capital development.
Education officials believe that the continued expansion of scholarship and infrastructure programs will play a key role in improving access to quality education and equipping students with modern learning facilities.
