Pakistan faces a widespread heat episode as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports hot and dry conditions across Punjab, Peshawar, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Karachi experiences humid and partly cloudy weather.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28°C, with the maximum expected to reach 40°C. The sun remained intense from morning, with daytime temperatures averaging around 37°C.
The PMD said no strong rain-producing system is currently affecting Lahore or other parts of Punjab, though local cloud development may bring partly cloudy conditions and light rain in isolated locations.
A new weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on July 2, which may bring rainfall to several Punjab districts, including Lahore, and reduce heat intensity.
In Karachi, the PMD forecast humid weather and partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with drizzle expected in some areas during the morning and night.
The maximum temperature in the city is expected to range between 34°C and 36°C, while the minimum was recorded at 29°C. Humidity stood at 78 percent, with sea breezes blowing at around 15 kilometres per hour.
Peshawar is expected to see clear skies and intense heat, with temperatures likely reaching 41°C. The city recorded a minimum of 26°C and humidity at 43 percent.
In upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD forecast rain over the next 24 hours, while hot and dry conditions will continue across the province’s plains.
In its monthly outlook, the PMD warned that above-normal temperatures are likely to persist across Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, central Punjab, and eastern Balochistan.
Near-normal to slightly below-normal rainfall is expected in June, raising the risk of prolonged heatwave conditions. Despite the lower rainfall forecast, isolated heavy downpours could still cause urban flooding in poorly drained and low-lying areas of major cities.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and monitor official weather updates.
