The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has opened online registration for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026, a mandatory examination for law graduates seeking enrolment with the Bar as advocates.
According to the HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC), candidates who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized by both the HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council are eligible to apply.
The last date for online registration is Sunday, July 19, 2026, while the Law-GAT 2026 will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The examination will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on the revised syllabus available on the HEC website. Candidates must score at least 50 out of 100 marks to qualify.
Applicants can submit their registration through the ETC online portal by providing accurate personal information, including their name, CNIC, mobile number, email address, and preferred test centre. HEC has advised candidates to ensure all details are entered correctly, as incorrect information may result in disqualification.
After completing the application form, candidates are required to pay the prescribed test fee through the 1Link/1Bill payment system using the generated consumer number. Once payment is made, applicants must verify the transaction through the ETC dashboard to complete the registration process.
HEC will issue roll number slips through the ETC portal approximately one week before the examination. Registered candidates will also receive their roll number slip details via email. Applicants have been advised to provide a valid email address and mobile number during registration to receive timely updates.
