The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a public advisory warning citizens against fraudulent phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be HEC officials.
According to the commission, scammers are impersonating HEC representatives in an attempt to obtain sensitive personal and financial information from unsuspecting individuals.
The HEC clarified that it has not authorized any individual or organization to contact members of the public on its behalf. It also emphasized that the commission never asks for money, bank details, PINs, passwords, or other confidential information over the phone.
The commission advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing any personal or financial information if they receive suspicious calls claiming to be from HEC.
People receiving such calls have been urged to report them to their telecom operator, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) National Cyber Crime Response Centre (NCCRC).
The HEC further advised anyone who becomes a victim of financial fraud to immediately report the incident to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and relevant law enforcement authorities.
The commission reiterated that the public should rely only on HEC’s official communication channels for authentic information, announcements, and services.
