The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) and Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) have signed a five-year agreement. The deal will expand educational exchange programs between the United States and Pakistan, including the Fulbright scholarship.
USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran and HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq signed the agreement in Islamabad. The partnership aims to create more opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals in both countries.
The agreement will support academic exchanges, research, and professional development. It also aims to strengthen cooperation in areas linked to economic growth, security, science, and technology.
Through the programs, Pakistani students and scholars will gain access to U.S. universities and research opportunities. At the same time, American participants will work with Pakistani partners on research, business, and public health projects.
Dr. Peter Moran said the programs help participants gain practical skills and knowledge. He added that these skills can support Pakistan’s development across different sectors.
Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq described the HEC-Fulbright partnership as a long-standing example of educational cooperation. He said the new agreement will help empower Pakistani scholars and strengthen higher education institutions.
David Moyer, Acting Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, also welcomed the renewed partnership. He said the agreement will help more students and professionals build skills and connections for the future.
USEFP has managed educational and cultural exchange programs for 75 years. During that period, more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans have taken part in these programs.
The Fulbright Program remains the U.S. government’s flagship scholarship program in Pakistan. USEFP, established in 1950 by the governments of both countries, administers the program and promotes educational exchange.
