The Punjab government has revised its policy for recruiting and extending the contracts of temporary lecturers in colleges, allowing high-performing teachers to retain their positions without undergoing a fresh recruitment process.
Under the new policy, temporary lecturers who demonstrate strong performance will have their contracts extended automatically, eliminating the need to reapply through the standard hiring procedure.
College heads have been tasked with evaluating the performance of temporary lecturers based on five separate criteria, including student results, conduct, attendance, and discipline, among other factors.
Officials said lecturers who perform well will be retained, while those found to have poor performance will be replaced with new recruits. Data on the performance of all temporary lecturers will also be compiled at the central level.
New classes in Punjab colleges are set to begin on September 1, where approximately 8,000 temporary lecturers are currently providing teaching services.
