The Punjab government has decided to recruit College Teaching Interns (CTIs) at public colleges to address faculty shortages and meet teaching requirements.
The Higher Education Department has been directed to recruit CTIs according to the teaching workload and student-teacher ratio at government colleges.
The recruitment is intended to provide temporary teaching support and help public colleges maintain smooth academic activities where faculty shortages exist.
During the 2025-26 academic year, Punjab recruited 8,084 CTIs under the programme, with quotas allocated for different categories.
CTIs teaching intermediate classes were appointed for up to seven months, while those assigned to BS programmes served for up to 10 months. Each intern received a monthly stipend of Rs. 50,000.
In the previous academic year, 2024-25, the provincial government recruited 7,354 CTIs across Punjab. Their appointments lasted six months, with the monthly stipend also set at Rs. 50,000.
The latest recruitment decision is aimed at ensuring that public colleges have adequate teaching support based on their academic needs and student enrollment.
The government’s move is also expected to help reduce the impact of faculty shortages and support the continuity of academic activities at government colleges across Punjab.
