K-Electric federal dues rose Rs203 billion in FY2026, a 93 percent jump, taking total outstanding payments owed by the federal government to Rs421 billion as of June 2026, up from Rs218 billion in June 2025.
The sharp increase highlights growing pressure on the federal government to clear its arrears to the power utility, which has repeatedly flagged rising receivables as a strain on its cash flow and operations.
Data covering the fiscal year ending June 2026 shows the outstanding balance climbing steadily, with the federal government now accounting for a significantly larger share of K-Electric’s unpaid dues compared to the previous year.
The utility, which supplies electricity to Karachi and surrounding areas, has in the past cited unresolved payment disputes and delayed settlements with government departments and entities as a recurring challenge affecting its financial position.
