The Power Division has resolved 11,695 pending net metering cases as the government moves to clear a major backlog following the transition from net metering to net billing.
Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari directed authorities to resolve the pending cases on a priority basis and protect the rights of eligible consumers under existing rules and regulations.
The government had identified 16,654 pending net metering applications during the transition process. Authorities subsequently launched a detailed verification and validation exercise to review and clear the backlog.
The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) has started contacting affected consumers directly to provide updates about application verification and the next steps.
Consumers are being contacted through SMS, WhatsApp, and other digital channels, reducing their reliance on agents, intermediaries, or third parties during the application process.
The Power Division has also warned consumers against paying anyone for faster processing. Authorities clarified that applicants do not need to make payments to any individual to have their cases processed.
While 11,695 applications have been resolved, authorities are still reviewing 4,959 cases. Relevant organizations have been directed to accelerate the verification process and complete the remaining applications.
Leghari instructed officials to provide consumers with clear and transparent information about the status of their applications.
The government said resolving genuine consumer complaints remains a priority and aims to complete the remaining cases without unnecessary delays or outside interference.
