The federal government has begun preparations to respond to a planned long march on Islamabad, led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and scheduled for September 27.
Authorities are expected to suspend mobile and internet services in districts adjacent to the federal capital and Rawalpindi, although no formal notification has been issued so far, and no reports of slow internet or weak mobile signals have yet emerged.
Meanwhile, the government has ordered an indefinite closure of the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1), the Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway (M14), also known as the CPEC route, and GT Road (N5), effective from Wednesday evening.
A spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said the closures would take effect from Wednesday night.
According to an NHMP statement, the M1 will remain shut to all traffic in both directions between Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chhachh Interchange, while the M14 will be closed between Hakla and Kundal in both directions. GT Road will similarly be closed to all traffic in both directions at Attock Khurd.
