The provincial government of Punjab has requested a downgrade of mobile internet services in selected areas of Attock and Rawalpindi, starting September 27.
According to media reports, the restriction, which would weaken mobile signal strength in the affected localities, has been formally requested but has not yet been confirmed as approved.
Officials have not specified which particular localities within the two districts will be affected or the expected duration of the restriction.
Meanwhile, the Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the specified areas, with the restrictions coming into effect today and remaining in place until October 5.
Under the notification, carrying or displaying weapons in public places will be prohibited, while gatherings of more than five people on roads, public spaces or open areas will also be restricted.
The government has also ordered an indefinite closure of the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1), the Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway (M14), also known as the CPEC route, and GT Road (N5), effective from Wednesday evening.
A spokesperson for the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said the closures would take effect from Wednesday night.
According to an NHMP statement, the M1 will remain shut to all traffic in both directions between Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chhachh Interchange, while the M14 will be closed between Hakla and Kundal in both directions. GT Road will similarly be closed to all traffic in both directions at Attock Khurd.
