The Sindh government has announced plans to provide 50,000 free electric scooters to women across the province as part of an initiative aimed at improving women’s mobility and access to transportation.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon made the announcement during a ceremony in Mirpurkhas where pink electric scooters were distributed to eligible women. He said the program would be expanded to cover eligible women in every district of Sindh.
Under the scheme, women must complete the required training and pass driving tests to qualify for the scooters. Memon said the distribution would be based on eligibility and driving skills rather than political or other considerations.
The minister also announced plans to introduce pink taxis for women, saying the measures were intended to improve mobility and support women’s participation in economic and social activities.
Memon said the number of women obtaining driving licenses has increased as more families have become comfortable with women riding motorcycles. He added that the electric scooters provided under the program are intended exclusively for women and warned that action would be taken if men use the vehicles.
