A National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) assistant director has been arrested for allegedly taking Rs120 million to restore the cancelled identity cards of Afghan nationals, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said.
The Counter-Terrorism Wing (CTW) of the FIA detained the official, identified as Aftab, and said he received the money to reinstate the computerised national identity cards (CNICs) of 51 Afghan citizens.
After the arrest, CTW teams searched the residence of the suspect and recovered Rs1.9 million in cash. Investigators said Aftab used the rest of the money to buy plots in Havelian and in G-15 sector in Islamabad.
The agency has secured the ownership documents for both properties. Further investigation is under way.
